Ausangate Mountain Connection | Our Name

Why We Chose the Name Ausangate

Yes, it's hard to pronounce (ow-sahn-GAH-tay)—but that's part of the story.

Ausangate Mountain rises over 20,000 feet in the Peruvian Andes—a sacred place where the alpaca's story began. For the Quechua people, it represents the source of life, warmth, and connection to nature.

We chose this name because it embodies what we stand for: honoring tradition, ethical sourcing, and uncompromising quality. The alpaca has sustained Andean communities for thousands of years, providing warmth in harmony with the land.

The Legend

Ancient Inca legend tells of the alpaca as a gift from mother nature—sent from the mountains to protect people during harsh winters. The alpaca's fleece became a symbol of warmth, comfort, and the bond between humanity and nature.

That legend guides everything we do. When you wear Ausangate Socks, you're carrying forward centuries of craftsmanship, sustainability, and care.
